| raSar®
is a British invention - a revolution in portable equipment security which
was designed with laptop computers in mind but can be easily adapted to
function in almost any electrical environment. |
| . |
raSar®
is an acronym for "Remotely Activated Security Against
Robbery".
It can be incorporated into any item that need only occasionally
be connected to a power source. It is hardware and is not software reliant.
It's output can initially be configured to trigger external devices or disrupt
the host device's operation but can also be configured to be audio. It utilises
an established global signalling infrastructure to convey its remote activation
signal. As such, it is anticipated that agents will be restricted
to Securitek and the equipment manufacturers themselves. |

| One
in 14 laptops are lost and stolen with 85%-95% of computer theft stemming
from an internal source. It was with this in mind that raSar®
was developed. Over £175 million is lost per year in the UK alone,
not forgetting value of a different kind - private data. Private data held
on the hard drive often has a unique, personal value which is difficult
to quantify. raSar®
tackles both the problem of the stolen hardware and the sensitivity of the
stored files. |

 |
raSar®
contains
patented technology and overcomes traditional shortfalls experienced
in software reliant technologies |
 |
raSar®
is totally self-contained and relies on no external devices or programs
- this includes the BIOS and software |
 |
raSar®
is totally independent in operation and contains its own micro-power
source |
 |
raSar®
has a 100 year non-volatile memory that cannot be erased or altered
- once triggered it cannot be reset by starving raSar®
or the host device of power |
 |
raSar®
offers manufacturers the flexibility to determine how the trigger
is interpreted, e.g. shout a warning, shut down the disk drive, erase
the data, display a message, etc. |
 |
raSar®
is highly flexible and works with any number of external triggers
being available for manufacturer customisation through Securitek's
O.E.M. licensing program |

| The primary
application of raSar®
is laptop computers due to their relative cost and ease of theft. This is
further reinforced when the value of the private data held on the unit's
hard disk is taken into account. In this application raSar®
could naturally alert people to the fact that it is stolen by: |
| . |
 |
Immediately
shutting down the internal hard disk drive to prevent further access
|
 |
Announcing
audibly that 'this computer is stolen, please contact the police'
quoting a unique raSar®
identifier,
in multiple languages as required |
 |
Immediately
blanking both the LCD and external screens to prevent further viewing
(or display a message if this is appropriate) |
| |
Data
could also be 'destroyed' remotely if required (where information
is a high security risk) |
|
| . |
| The
impact of activating raSar®
renders
the computer useless to the thief and provides means of safe recovery and
return to its rightful owner. Additional functionality can be added to permanently
disrupt the hard disk drive and/or motherboard operation. This may be desirable
where the information contained on the laptop far exceeds the relative worth
of the hardware. |
| . |
| raSar®
technology can be incorporated into the motherboard circuitry at the time
of design and manufacture. This removes the possible vulnerability of an
external device by making it a part of the laptop itself. Securitek has
a working demonstration model that demonstrates the concept in full operation.
If you are interested in licensing raSar®
technology to incorporate into your product(s), please contact us to arrange
a demonstration of this groundbreaking technology application. |
